Clinic Procedures

The Shifa Clinic is a clinic that belongs to the community that it serves. This is exemplified in the fact that everyone that works at the clinic or has helped to organize it, has done so on a volunteer basis.

The physicians that help make the clinic possible, are some of the best and they come from all areas of our community to volunteer their time and effort.

Although it has not always been so, the Shifa Clinic is now a student-run clinic. The involvement of the student population has allowed the clinic to grow and become much more organized and efficient. The students have also made it possible for a new link in the community to form.

The undergraduate students will take care of the reception and intake duties within the clinic. The more experienced students will also be responsible for managing and organizing the clinic.

The patients are first seen by a medical student, and then by both a medical student and an attending physician, who will develop a patient treatment plan together. In this way the patients receive great attention to their concerns, and the students are given the greatest opportunity to learn.

Volunteer Information

The Shifa Clinic is completely run by the efforts of volunteers, therefore we welcome people who are interested in helping. We currently have positions designed for UC Davis undergraduates, UC Davis medical students, and physicians.

Shifa clinic accepts new undergraduate volunteers in the fall quarter of every school year. Each potential volunteer must fill out an application and complete an interview with current volunteers and medical student codirectors beginning in the fall quarter.
