Who We Are

Shifa Clinic is a non-profit, student-run medical facility dedicated to serving the diverse, medically uninsured population of the greater Sacramento area. Every weekend, the clinic provides basic as well as specialized medical services free of charge to patients of many ethnicities and backgrounds. In addition, as a teaching center for medical students and undergraduate volunteers, Shifa Clinic takes an active role in shaping the health care professionals of the future. We highly encourage passionate students to apply.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Be a currently registered UC Davis undergraduate student in good academic standing covered by either USHIP or other health insurance.
  • Must have a graduation date of Spring 2026 or later 
  • Must be able to volunteer 3 to 5 clinic days (Saturdays or Sundays) during Winter 2025.
  • Must participate in at least one finance event per quarter
  • Must participate in at least one outreach event per quarter
  • Register for and attend mandatory weekly Monday classes (6:10 pm – 7 pm) starting Winter 2025 (registration will be done via Schedule Builder)
  • Must obtain health clearance: 
    • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR): proof of 2 vaccinations or a positive blood titer.
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox): proof of 2 vaccinations or a positive blood titer.
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDAP): must have been administered after 2005 to include the booster for Pertussis or whooping cough.
    • Flu Shotrequired during flu season: Unfortunately, UCDH Volunteer Services can not accept declination letter nor the option of wearing a mask. You may choose to volunteer after flu season has ended.
    • COVID – 19 vaccination series: proof of vaccination series (1 & 2 doses) and booster vaccinations at eligibility. You must get the booster shot within 30 days of eligibility to participate in the volunteer program.
    • Tuberculosis (TB) Requirements (volunteers must complete option A, B, or C) :
      • Option A: Two negative TB skin tests:  1 within the last three months and 1 within the last year.
      • Option B: One negative QuantiFERON Blood Test within the last 3 months.
      • Option C: One negative Chest X-Ray report completed within the last 3 months, if you have a positive TB skin test (must provide proof of positive skin test results). You will be referred for a TB symptom interview.
